Title: Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun (Toilet bound Hanako-kun)
Genre: Fantasy, Shoujo
Written by: Iro Aida
Studio: Lerche
Synopsis: The famous "Seven Wonders" that every school seems to have are a staple of Japanese urban legends. One of the most well-known of these tales is that of Hanako-san: the ghost of a young girl who haunts the school's bathrooms. Kamome Academy has its own version of Hanako-san's legend. Rumors claim that if one successfully manages to summon Hanako-san, she will grant her summoner any wish. Lured by the gossip, many people have tried to call upon her, yet every attempt has failed. However, when Nene Yashiro, a girl hoping for romantic fortune, dares to summon Hanako-san, she discovers that the rumored "girl" is actually a boy! After a series of unfortunate events involving Nene's romantic desires, she is unwillingly entangled in the world of the supernatural, becoming Hanako-kun's assistant. Soon, she finds out about Hanako-kun's lesser-known duty: maintaining the fragile balance between mortals and apparitions. (https://myanimelist.net/anime/39534/Jibaku_Shounen_Hanako-kun)
Thoughts:
The first thing that entered my mins upon seeing this anime in my feed is, THIS HAS A GREAT ART. The character design and the color design actually had my attention. I still don't have any idea with the plot nor the voice actors (lol cause recently I am so fond of seiyuus). So it made me put this anime towards my to-watch list. As soon as I completed the episodes, I started watching it and you know what? This anime really had me going, finishing the 12 episode anime on my afternoon watching time. Hanako-kun actually made my heart flutter and as far as I can remember, the last time I felt that is from Levi of Shingeki no Kyojin and that's roughly 6 years ago! Hanako is too adorable to resist even though he has a naughty personality.
I love how he protect Yashiro and his skinship is totally too much <3 (OH DAMN I SHIP HANAKO AND YASHIRO SO MUCH). So even though wikipedia says that this a shounen anime, I personally think that this is a shoujo genre.
When it comes to plot, it is just your usual plot but the only thing that makes it interesting is Hanako himself. His secrets and his story makes the story alive.
Animation: 8/10
Though the art is good, the animation is lacking. I am not sure about the manga but I was hoping for a longer fight scene for Hanako and Minamoto. Maybe it's just like a tease for the further story, this anime might have a larger fight in the future, who knows? But personally it is really lacking. If anime wants to appeal for boy viewers (since this is listed as shounen) they might want to give the viewers more spice other than the fan service (skinships lol)
Soundtrack (9/10)
A good grade for the soundtrack, other than the opening and the ending song, the soundtrack is si calming too. Maybe because this season talks about the past of the characters so they made it calm and relaxing for the viewers so that it won't make it more depressing? I don't know.
Overall: 10/10
A good watch! Recomended to all ages and shoujo fans! Watch out! The Hanako fandom will soon rise.
