Thoughts:

Since this movie is from the famous studio, Studio Ghibli, I expected a lot from this movie. As usual, the studio's iconic art style and color blasts are in the movie. Great animation and good soundtrack are still in the film. It's your typical Studio Ghibli Film. As usual, a very good and very recommended movie.

But personally, I am quite disappointed. Before this, I watched Spirited Away, Howl's moving castle, Grave of the Fireflies and Princess Mononoke and each of the movie has it's tensing plot and scenes. I already had an image that Studio Ghibli films are always giving moral lessons thru a great Earth shaking phenomenon. I am trying to tell here is, the other movies of Studio Ghibli that I watched involves great disasters and the main character needs to save everyone from that disaster. This movie lacks from that idea. Though the movie is telling that Ponyo's human transformation makes an impact to the balance of nature and presented disastrous scenes that might happen, it was actually too soft for me.

Maybe I just got this shock from the movie, Grave of the Fireflies that's why I felt that Ponyo is somewhat calming for me and also this movie might be something for the kids to watch.

Animation: 10/10

As expected, 2D animation is the best! It is your usual Studio Ghibli Animation. This movie was released on 2008, but the trademark of the studio is still living in this film.

Overall: 10/10

Of course a recommended movie for everyone. A good movie for kids. It is teaching good traits for the children to learn.
