Vinland Saga Anime Review

Title: Vinland Saga
Genre: Adventure, Historical, Fiction
Written by: Makoto Yukimura
Synopsis: Young Thorfinn grew up listening to the stories of old sailors that had traveled the ocean and reached the place of legend, Vinland. It's said to be warm and fertile, a place where there would be no need for fighting—not at all like the frozen village in Iceland where he was born, and certainly not like his current life as a mercenary. War is his home now. Though his father once told him, "You have no enemies, nobody does. There is nobody who it's okay to hurt," as he grew, Thorfinn knew that nothing was further from the truth.

The war between England and the Danes grows worse with each passing year. Death has become commonplace, and the viking mercenaries are loving every moment of it. Allying with either side will cause a massive swing in the balance of power, and the vikings are happy to make names for themselves and take any spoils they earn along the way. Among the chaos, Thorfinn must take his revenge and kill the man who murdered his father, Askeladd. The only paradise for the vikings, it seems, is the era of war and death that rages on. Thoughts:
At first I was very intrigued with the anime itself. Before it aired in television, there were rumors that the animation of this anime will be better than with Attack on Titan (AOT). With the idea of having the same studio that animated these series, I am also biased with AOT so I wanted to check out Vinland Saga as well.

As expected, this anime grabbed the number one spot for the best anime in that season (wasn't really sure what season it did air) and that made me feel excited about watching this anime.

Then I started watching this, I guess by January. weeks after it was finished airing. At first, the story really confused me cause I don't have any idea with the history of war at the European part of the world (not sure if it was really Europe, not good with geography LOLOL). However, it will make sense while you deeply watch the anime. When I say "deeply", it is when you are really into the anime, understanding every dialogue and scenes, looking closely to the characters and do some research. In my case, I research about the war between the Danes and England.

Animation: 10/10

This anime was animated by Wit Studio. No wonder it was a well developed frames and good art like in AOT. But I admit, maybe AOT has a good animation but they did better for Vinland Saga. There are some censors that sometimes breaking the tension of watching it but it doesn't matter right. LOL it was just me who are very keen with good animation especially in fight scenes.

Soundtrack: 10/10

WHAT CAN I WISH FOR NOW THAT SURVIVE SAID THE PROPHET ACTUALLY SANG THE FIRST OPENING SONG OF VINLAND SAGA? I've been a fan of SSTP ever since I watched Banana Fish. So it has been a year. SSTP has a good music and a good vocalist. FOR REAL. Try listening to their other songs. Most of their songs are in English too. Check their youtube channel here.

The second opening is so lit as well. The music fitted the anime so well. I said this cause sometimes, songs for an anime actually doesn't go well. It sounds actually out for the theme of the anime. I won't tell that Naruto Shippuden is one of the examples. LOL.

Overall: 10/10
Very recommended! A good anime if you are looking for a lit action. Kinda emotional but it is better with it. But it is not good for children 15 years old and younger.
